Meet Megha

"As an Indian-born immigrant in Texas, the elementary school cafeteria and Houston’s booming culinary scene turned me into a voracious food writer."

In 1986, my parents made the move from Mumbai, India to Houston, Texas with little to fuel our new life beyond hopes, dreams, and the will to work hard. As they explored higher education and new careers, I focused on soaking in all that was new and finding my place in the world. Learning to speak and understand English was a challenge, but I found it therapeutic to put my thoughts on paper. An elementary school teacher took note, and offered the advice, "Keep writing."

In experiencing "Houston" food for the first time - from the school cafeteria to the markets in Alief and Asiatown - I swiftly made a connection with the unfamiliar city. The hunger inside me for trying new cuisines and new restaurants has since been insatiable. As my life carried on, I was granted a wealth of opportunities to immerse myself in Houston's vibrant culinary scene. I loved it, and I wanted to share it with everyone. As a creative outlet, I put my passion to work and began reporting on Houston chefs, restaurants, and events for local magazines and radio stations. I didn't know it then, but I was laying the foundation for what would become a fruitful career as a food and travel journalist.

Each story is written with pride, adoration, and wonder. From the big city that inspired me decades ago to the people, places, and stories that I continue to discover each day. Houston has long been home, but I'll keep exploring and keep writing.
